Roddy Lankman was the host of the show Treasure Chest in Mr. Monk and the Game Show. His assistant Lizzie Talvo found proof that he had been helping a contestant cheat and win due to his near bankruptcy, and planned to tell show producer Dwight Ellison if he did not quit. To prevent her from doing this while also keeping his job, he replaced her video cassette evidence with a different one and cut her car's brakes. His plan worked, and Talvo crashed and died. Before she died, she managed to tell passerby Val Birch about Lankman rigging the show and murdering her. But instead of calling 911 and either trying to save Lizzie's life or report Roddy for cheating and the murder, Val sent Lizzie's confession to his voicemail in order to blackmail Lankman into letting him become the new champion. He helped Birch win by holding the card by a certain corner depending on the correct answer. Due to Brich's stupidity in regards to the difficulty of the questions, Ellison got suspicious and asked his son-in-law Adrian Monk to investigate. Monk (while on Treasure Chest as a contestant) figured out how Lankman killed Talvo and helped Birch cheat. After calling Birch's answering machine (which played back Talvo's dying words) he proved Lankman killed Talvo. Lankman and Birch were arrested for fraud and murder.
