Owen McCloskey was a character who appeared in Mr. Monk and the Miracle, He was played by Micheal Badalucco.
Background[]
In 1999, Owen had a partner in his pharmacy who embezzled $18,000 from it. Upon learning this, Owen murdered the partner and buried him near a monastery in Franklin Park. Some time later, the monastery built a fountain on top of the spot where McCloskey's partner was buried.
Things went on as normal for Owen up until 2008, when he discovered the monastery was planning to renovate and build new classrooms, which would require digging up the fountain. He needed a plan, and came up with a hoax: make people believe the fountain miraculously cured the sick. The idea was that if the fountain was considered sacred, no one would dare tamper with it, and the body would stay hidden.
To create a need for cures, he switched out the medicine of his customers, including SFPD Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, with placebos that either didn't treat their conditions or exacerbated them. He would then paint an image of the fountain on their doors with the word "DRINK" underneath. Once he had confirmed a customer drank from the fountain, he would give them proper medication, thus healing them. He even had his fiancee Katie Doyle pose as a woman who drank from the fountain and was cured of the crippling injuries she sustained from a car crash. She also spread the word of the fountain on the news, helping the legend spread.
McCloskey's plan went well for a short while until he decided to paint the fountain on Stottlemeyer's door. While he was doing that, a homeless man by the name of Willie T saw him painting the fountain while rooting through Stottlemeyer's trash looking for bottles. Owen grew worried that Willie could tell people what he saw, so he chased after him. Willie tried to get help from three other homeless men known as The Professor, Ike, and Reggie by screaming at them that someone was chasing him. Unfortunately, the three didn't believe him, and thus Owen was able to catch up to him in a junkyard. He suffocated Willie with a plastic bag, then stuffed his body into an old refrigerator to make it appear he climbed into it to stay warm and got locked in.
However, Ike, The Professor, and Reggie realized Willie was not imagining his attacker after they found his body and sought out former SFPD Homicide Detective Adrian Monk at his apartment. They paid him in Willie's bottles, which included 3 bottles of a chalk-based health drink Leland was drinking in an attempt to heal his back problems. This led Adrian to try and explain this to him, but he and his assistant Natalie Teeger discovered that Leland planned to leave the SFPD and join the monastery, even shaving off his mustache.
When Monk and Natalie returned to the fountain in an attempt to get Monk to drink the fountain's water in an attempt to cure his phobias and quirks, Monk discovered that over half the bottles of discarded medicine were from Owen's pharmacy. Katie, who was nearby as usual, quickly admitted to the hoax, as she grew too guilty over people who were genuinely sick drinking from the fountain with her knowing they couldn't be cured. Owen was arrested for the murders of his partner and Willie T soon afterwards, with the body of the partner being dug up after the hoax was revealed to the public.
