Edith Capriani is a minor character in Mr. Monk and the Badge. She calls the police to her apartment complex twice. The first time, she claims that "Mr. Barton" tried to smother her in her bed. When Adrian Monk and Louis Doyle investigate, they find out that Mr. Barton is actually a cat. While the call was frivolous, it allows Monk to realize that Mikhail Alvanov's story about seeing Richard Mathis is false.
The second time she calls the police, Monk is less than happy. This time, she says that "Mr. Lawrence," her Burmese neighbor who goes to her apartment for milk, has gone crazy. When Monk nears the apartment, Mr. Lawrence throws a chair out the window, revealing that he's a real person, after all.
