Denny Graf is a security guard for the community college Sharona was attending. He was secretly having an affair with the creative writing teacher Meredith Preminger. Meredith, however, was married to Max Preminger and Denny and Meredith agreed to kill Max but needed a perfect murder blueprint. Meredith gave her class an assignment to write a perfect murder story. She chose Sharona's out of everyone else's story. Fearing the killing would come back to bite them in the end, they needed Sharona to believe she was crazy. For starters, while Meredith made a claim to Sharona that she never got her story, Denny, however, was posing as a specter in cowboy attire covered in blood and a propped knife and screwdriver implanted on him where he haunted Sharona to the point of insanity. When Monk found evidence proving Sharona was sane, he confronted him and Meredith at the Preminger home the day of Max's wake. When Sharona's rough draft was later found, both him and Meredith were arrested for murder.
