Archie Modine was a former cop who appeared in "Mr. Monk and the Billionaire Mugger". He is portrayed by Peter Onorati.

Biography[]

In his college days, Archie colluded with his fraternity brother Sidney Teal to fake a mugging on Sidney's date with a woman named Angie DeLuca. Modine acted as a mugger that Sidney managed to "fight off". However, the relationship between Sidney and Angie didn't work out, as he later married a woman named Myra, and formed a very successful computer company.

Years later, Modine attended a fundraiser of Sidney's where he met Myra. This turned into a night of sex and later an affair. The two figured life would be much better and far easier if Sidney was out of the picture and planned to kill him.

Modine settled on the idea to repeat the fake mugger stunt, only with Sidney playing the mugger. When he pitched the idea to Sidney, he jumped at the chance to relive possibly the best night of his life and readily agreed. Modine figured he could claim that he shot the mugger in self defense, and if anyone did unearth his connection to Sidney, he could claim that Sidney found out about the affair and tried to kill him.

On the date night, while Modine and his date were exiting from a movie theater and walking across the parking lot, they were confronted by Sidney Teal with a knife in hand, ready to be "fought off" by Archie. However, to Sidney's surprise, Modine pulled out a revolver and shot him dead.

What Modine didn't realize was that Sidney added something extra to the mugging: He hired an actor by the name of Joseph Moratta to play a cop. The idea was that once Modine sent the mugger running, "Officer" Moratta would congratulate Modine for his bravery. Moratta witnessed Sidney express confusion when Modine pulled out the gun. When Sidney went down, Moratta panicked and ran, creating the media frenzy "Fraidy Cop" in the process.

When Adrian Monk confronted Myra and Archie about the plot, and informed the duo that Moratta's hiring could prove Sidney had no intention to harm, and thus making his shooting murder, Myra cracked and claimed the whole thing to be Archie's idea. Modine pulled his gun ready to kill her, but Lt. Randy Disher tackled him and arrested him.
